Term 1 Week 5 2017

Homework

  • Vectors Worksheet
  • Start Circular Motion Worksheet
Vectors
  • A vector has a size - how big is it?
  • A vector has a direction - which way is it going?
  • When adding vectors add head to tail
  • When finding a change remember
Δv = vf - vi

Using Vectors in Projectile Motion

Circular Motion
  • Velocity is always at a tangent to the circle. Even if the speed remains constant, the velocity is changing because it is accelerating.

vc = 2𝝿r/T

  • Centrapetal Acceleration is always toward the centre of the circle.
  • ac = mv2/r
  • Centapetal Force is the Net Force, and is also always towards the centre of the circle.

Fc = mv2/r

Homework
Projectile Motion Worksheet

Use Trigonometry to find your Vertical initial velocity and Horizontal initial velocity component vectors

Projectile Motion follows a Parabolic Path that is Symmetrical about the highest point

Vertical Axis - downward acceleration at g, use kinematic equations

Horizontal Axis - no acceleration due to forces being balanced, use v =d/t

Time, t, is the only scalar (not a vector) so ties both Vertical and Horizontal together

The Vertical and Horizontal Motions are otherwise independant

Term 1 Week 3 2017

Fundamental Units and Compound Units
All other units used in science are made up of a combination of the fundamental units.

Kinematic Equations
Only used when an object is accelerating
vf = vi + at
← missing d
vf2 = vi2 + 2ad
← missing t
d = vit + ½at2
← missing vf
d = (vi + vf)t/2
← missing a

Choose the kinematic equation based on:

  • what quantities you are given
  • what quantity is asked for
  • what quantity is not involved
